Today we... worked on our Earth Day building challenge, learned about ways to add suspense into a short story, played Multiplication Face-off or 4 Quotients, completed a fraction review task, researched and collected inforamation related to our assignment about historical sites in Alberta, and had music with Ms. Bohan. REMINDERS & UPDATES: We have inline skating tomorrow!! Also, please remember to bring in donations for the Burrowing Owls project the grade 3 classes are doing.

Today we... read a story in our reading groups, finished and shared our vivid description of a story critical character, setting, and/or object, made arrays using tiles and wrote the corresponding multiplication and division questions, pracitced reducing fractions to the lowest term, started to research a Historical Site found in Alberta and had music with Ms. Bohan. UPDATES & REMINDERS: The following is a message from a few of the grade 3 classes: Wilder Institute – Burrowing Owl Conservation As participants in the Conservation Champions Festival with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, the grade 3 students in Mrs. Moravec’s and Mrs. Price’s classes, have chosen to support and educate others on the burrowing owl. Copperfield School will be collecting donations starting on April 22 nd through April 26 th 2024 to raise money for the “Head Starting Program” that is aimed at caring for and protecting burrowing owlets until they are stronger, and...

Today we... worked on creating vivid, detailed descriptions of story characters, settings, and objects, went to a 'Bison Robe' presentation, played a math game called 'Fill the Stairs', worked on finishing our science creations that deomonstrated the use of a pulley, and watched a short story about all of the ways Indigenous people used the buffalo to survive. UPDATES & REMINDERS: No school on Friday (P.D. Day).

Today we... created something that represents our favourite activity to do in spring, worked on introducing critical characters, setting, and objects in short stories, read from A Wolf called Wander, played a math game called 'Fill the Stairs', practiced reducing fractions to the lowest term, read about and listened to the significance of the buffalo to Indigenous people, and had music with Ms. Bohan. UPDATES & REMINDERS: We have a guest coming into the school tomorrow to teach us about the significance of the buffalo to Indigenous people. There is no school on Friday (PD Day). Inline skating starts next week!

Today we... played a literacy game called 'Connections', worked on finishing up jobs from throughout the week, read from A Wolf called Wander, played 4 quotients or Multiplication Face-off, and had a class meeting. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Friday, April 19 is a P.D. Day (no school). Inline skating starts Aprill 22nd, please sign and return permission forms before then so your child can participate.

Today we... created and shared something we are grateful for, worked on our story map for our short stories, read from A Wolf called Wander, played Multiplication Face-off, practiced comparing fractions and ordering fractions, finished our rubber band cars and had a race, compared rollers and wheel and axles using a Venn diagram, and had music with Ms. Bohan. UPDATES & REMINDERS: We have our wet-felting activity tomorrow afternoon with a special guest. Please bring in permission forms for inline skating that starts April 22 (an email was sent home today).

Today we... read in small groups and did a related spelling activity, created a story map for a familiar fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood', read from A Wolf called Wander, practiced comparing fractions with the same numerator, and we learned about wheel and axles and created a rubber band cardboard car. UPDATES & REMINDERS: We need 1 or 2 more parent volunteers for an in-school activity happening next Tuesday afternoon from 12:50 - 3:00pm. Today we... did a literacy activity related to homophones, discussed important parts of a narrative short story, read from A Wolf called Wander, played multiplication squares, identified fractions on a number line and determined if they were closer to 0, 1/2, or 1 whole, discussed how stories shared about the past can enlighten us on important events and ways of life and created a visual journal page about 'What is your story?' and had music with Ms. Bohan. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Ask your parents about their story... where were they born, when and where did they immigrate to Canada, what traditions do they celebrate, etc.

Today we... shared something exciting we did over Spring Break, discussed our brain pockets and how we access what is in our brain pockets as a first step to story writing, exchanged our library books, played Multiplication Squares, used benchmarks to determine if fractions were less than, equal to, or greater than 1/2, did an experiment with rollers and discussed their uses, and finished up a few jobs we started before the break.
