Today we... played a literacy activity called 'Holiday Word Scramble', played board games/puzzles/cards with our friends, caroled in the gym, read with our kindergarten buddies, and had a class meeting discussing our plans for the winter break. UPDATES & REMINDERS: School starts back up on Monday, January 8th. January 10th is fun lunch! I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing holiday season. Take care and see you in the new year!

Today we... discussed the meaning and significance of winter solstice, learned about the science of a snowflake and made a related art creation, played 'Place Value Yahtzee', did a journaling activity related to the winter solstice, and completed the December section of our phenology wheels. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Tomorrow is the last day of school before winter break. Students are welcome to wear pajamas tomorrow (stuffies are optional). Also, students can bring in one of their favourite games to play (preferably not one with a lot of pieces.

Today we... read in our reading groups, practices using reading powers, read from A Whale of the Wild, played 'Junk It', answered some addition and subtraction questions that require borrowing and regrouping, finished our region water colour paintings, started some research on a region of Alberta, and sang some carols in music. Updates & Reminders - Friday is pajama day. Also, students are welcome to bring in a favourite game on Friday (a favourite with not a lot of pieces please)!

Today we... created words that use the letter 'l' blend and sorted them into words that make a long or short vowel sound, reviewed and practiced the reading power of making connections, read from A Whale of the Wild, played multiplication BUMP, answered questions related to our math unit on telling time, chose a picture related to a region of Alberta and painted it using water colours, and learned about the science of a snowflake. UPDATES & REMINDERS - Friday is pajama day! Friday is also the last day of school before winter break. School resumes on Monday, January 8th.

Today we... read in our reading groups, worked on finishing jobs we worked on throughout the week, read from A Whale of the Wild, played multiplication BUMP or Junk it, and had a class meeting complimenting another student for a kind deed they did throughout the week. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Great job on the concert last night. You were all AMAZING!!! Next week is our last week of school before the winter break. On Friday, December 22, it is pajama day!! School resumes on Monday, January 8th.

Today we... created and shared our favourite thing about winter, learned about the reading power of 'transforming', went outside for gym, made clocks and learned about duration of time, brainstormed and discussed objects that emit and reflect light, and practiced for the winter concert in the gym. UPDATES & REMINDERS: The winter concert is this Thursday evening from 7:15 - 7:45. Students can wear what they wish to the performance. Also, due to concert practices held in the gym, we will be outdoors for gym class with Mr. Parson's all this week. Finally, grade 5 students are still collecting Mustard Seed donations for the remainder of this week.

Today we... read with our reading groups and did jobs related to the Word of the Day, finished all 'catch-up' jobs, read from A Whale of the Wild, discussed the differences and similarities between a 12 hours clocks vs. a 24 hour clock, read information about key features in each of Alberta's regions including landforms, climate, natural resources, bodies of water, and vegetation, and had a class meeting to discuss important infomation about the winter concert next week. UPDATES & REMINDERS: No school tomorrow. Winter concert is next Thurday evening. Mustard Seed donations will be collected until December 15th. Today we... played 'Snowman Hangman' for our literacy activity, decorated our sock snowmen (they will be on display during the Winter Concert next week), read from A Whale of the Wild, practiced saying and showing the time on an interactive, digital clock, worked on finishing our colour poems and social studies research, and practiced our songs for the concert in music. UPDATES & REMINDERS: No school Friday (PD Day). The winter concert is next Thursday, December 14 in the evening from 7:15 - 7:45pm (doors open at 6:45, students must be in their classrooms by 7:00pm). Also, parents are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal on the same day starting at 1:45pm.

Today we... did a literacy activity related to suffixes, exchanged our books at the library, read from A Whale of the Wild, used a website called Toy Theater to continue practicing telling time, brainstormed and discussed natural and man-made sources of light, and practiced singing our songs or the winter concert next week. UPDATES & REMINDERS: We had enough socks for everyone to start our 'sock snowman' art (thanks to those who brought extra). There is no school this Friday (PD day). Today we... created and shared something that made us think of peace using play-dough, worked on finishing our colour poems, read from A Whale of the Wild, played multiplication BUMP, practiced and reviewed how to tell time on an analog clock, discussed the importance of eye safety when doing experiments related to light, did an experiment proving that light travels in a straight line, and we learned about different types of landforms. UPDATES & REMINDERS - No school this Friday (PD day), please bring an adult white sock and patterned sock (we will start the activity tomorrow), and grade 5 students are collecting donations for the Mustard Seed.

Today we... played a literacy game called 'Snowman Hangman', worked on catch up jobs that needed to be finished from throughout the week, read from A Whale of the Wild, practiced ordering and comparing numbers by playing a game called 'Predict your Number' and had a class meeting where we shared compliments for each other. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Please remember to send 1 white adult sock and 1 patterned sock in for an art project we will be starting next week, there is no school next Friday (PD Day), our winter concert is on Thursday, December 14, and grade 5 students are requesting donations for the Mustard Seed (toiletry items please).
