 Today we... came up with juicy vocabulary words to describe halloween related nouns, worked on our design/build challenge, read from A Whale of the Wild, played 'Place Value Yahtzee', practiced reading big numbers correctly, wrote an advertisement trying to persuade someone to buy our haunted house, and practiced drumming in music class. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Halloween costumes can be worn tomorrow afternoon at school (please leave weapons and other accessories at home).  Also, no candy treats please (due to allergies and other dietary restrictions). Copperfield School is collecting food donations for the Veteran's Food Bank!  

 Today we... worked on our design/build challenge, did a fall art project with our kindergarten buddies, looked over our math multiplication and division check in, played multiplication BUMP, and had a class meeting.  Today we... did a literacy activity where we counted phonemes, worked on our design and build challenge, played a math game skip counting by 5s, completed a check-in to see how we are doing with using multiplication and division strategies, used ChromeBooks to access a resource about the regions of Alberta, and did a journaling activity practicing listening and describing images on the Smartboard. UPDATES & REMINDERS: With Halloween just around the corner, p lease don’t send whole class treats to hand out as we have many students with dietary restrictions, allergies and sanitization expectations makes this a challenging practice.

 Today we... played a Halloween word scramble game, began a design and build challenge, read from 'A Whale of the Wild', practiced adding and subtracting numbers in the hundreds, played mini-basketball games in gym, learned about what happens to food waste when it is composted and when it is thrown into a landfill, and we did an experiment about food waste producing methane gas. UPDATES & REMINDERS:  Environment club meets tomorrow at lunch.  Also, bring any materials from home for your 'haunted house building challenge'.

 Today we... played a literacy game called 'Word Ladders', did a writing activity retelling the important parts of a short film called 'Piper', exchanged our library books, read from 'A Whale of the Wild', practiced using strategies to solve multiplication questions, reviewed how to add and subtract large numbers with borrowing and regrouping, learned about different methods of waste disposal and discussed advantages and disadvantages of each, and did a scientific sketch of flowers and leaves.   UPDATES & REMINDERS:  Tomorrow is board game club and Thursday is environment club. HALLOWEEN INFO:  At Copperfield School, students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes in the afternoon on Tuesday, October 31. Students can wear face paint all day and change into their costumes after lunch.  Today we... read in our reading groups, were introduced to our next talk move 'Wait Time', read more of the novel 'A Whale of the Wild', played a multiplication math game, learned some helpful tips to use when solving word problems, finished up an art activity on complementary colours, and practiced drumming in music. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Tomorrow is picture retake day.  

 Today we... read some books on GetEpic that had examples of homonyms, worked on 'catch up' jobs from throughout the week, played multiplication BUMP with the 12x tables, practiced using fact families to solve division questions, created art using complementary colours, and had a class meeting to discuss activities coming up at school. UPDATES & REMINDERS: No school tomorrow, Tuesday, October 24th is picture re-take day, board game club is next Wednesday, and environment club is next Thursday!

 Today we... practiced identifying and using homonyms correctly, read from A Whale of the Wild, used our basketball skills in gym, played multiplication BUMP with the 11x tables, tried solving division questions by skip counting backwards on a number line, went outside and sketched on our phenology wheels, and had music. UPDATES & REMINDERS: No school Friday (P.D. Day for teachers), and picture retake day is Tuesday, October 24.

 Today we... wrote a journal entry about whether students should have more recess time at school, practiced using the talk move 'reasoning', practiced basketball skills in gym, played multiplication BUMP with the 9x tables, used the strategy 'Repeated Subtraction' to find the quotient to division questions,  learned a science term 'decomposition' and how it relates to waste removal, and identified the continents and oceans around the world. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Wednesday is Fun Snack day for those who ordered, there is no school this Friday (October 20th), and home reading books were sent home today.  Please check your email for more information!

 Today we... did a sentence segmenting activity to help improve phonological awareness, worked on finishing up any work from throughout the week, read from our book 'A Whale of the Wild', attended the 'Pie-in-the-Face' assembly and celebrated the funds raised for the Terry Fox Foundation, and had a class meeting. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Next Wednesday, October 18th is Fun Snack day (pretzels can be ordered), and board game club will also meet on Wednesday at lunch recess.  No school next Friday (Professional Development Day).

 Today we... did an activity matching antonyms, practiced using talk moves while reading the story 'Enemy Pie', read from 'A Whale of the Wild', played multiplication BUMP using the 7x table, learned about division strategies, played a game creating food chains, and had music with Ms. Bohan. UPDATES & REMINDERS - Board game club was cancelled today due to all classes staying inside, tomorrow will be the first meeting for Environment club.  No school Friday, October 20 (PD Day).  Fun snack on October 18 (pretzels)!

 Today we... played a literacy game called 'Antonym match up', practiced using talk moves, exchanged our books at the library, played multiplication BUMP with the 7x table, practiced finding factors for certain products, learned about how a food chain works and possible animals from Alberta that would be part of a food chain, and did an activity about finding different places in the world. UPDATES & REMINDERS:  Tomorrow is the first day the 'board game club' will meet, environment club will have their first meeting on Thursday, the 'Pie-in-the-face' assembly will be on Friday.  

 Today we... attended the Terry Fox assembly put on by the grade 2 students, read from the book 'A Whale of the Wild', participated in the Terry Fox run, and had a class meeting discussing things we are thankful for. UPDATES & REMINDERS: No school Monday!  Board Game Club meets next Wednesday, October 11, please bring in Eco Club forms if you are interested in joining. 

 Today we... did a spelling quiz, completed an OurSCHOOL survey, read more of 'A Whale of the Wild', played multiplication BUMP with the 5x tables, completed and created input/output machines, learned about decomposers and how they help to break down waste in nature, and we examined a map of Canada and where Alberta is in comparison to other provinces and territories. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Tomorrow is the Terry Fox run (please bring a twoonie for Terry), and no school next Monday, October 9th.  

 Today we... created synonyms and shared them to the class, read 'Terry Fox and Me' and practiced retelling the story using our talk moves, got new library books, practiced shooting hoops in gym, played multiplication BUMP and learned about input/output tables in math, observed and journaled about objects in Room 180, and we discussed what happens to waste in nature. UPDATES: Tomorrow is fun lunch!  Please remember to bring in donations for the Terry Fox run happening this Friday!

 Today we... played a literacy game called synonym match up, discussed what 'Talk Moves' are and practiced how to use them, read from our novel 'A Whale of the Wild', found increasing and decreasing patterns using money, did a Google Classroom activity where we had to put the provinces and territories back together using an online puzzle, and we had music.   UPDATES & REMINDERS:  A note went home today regarding a board-game club... if your child is interested, please sign and return the form ASAP.  Please bring in donations for the Terry Fox Run which will be held this Friday.  Fun Lunch is this Wednesday!
