Today we... came up with juicy vocabulary words to describe halloween related nouns, worked on our design/build challenge, read from A Whale of the Wild, played 'Place Value Yahtzee', practiced reading big numbers correctly, wrote an advertisement trying to persuade someone to buy our haunted house, and practiced drumming in music class. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Halloween costumes can be worn tomorrow afternoon at school (please leave weapons and other accessories at home). Also, no candy treats please (due to allergies and other dietary restrictions). Copperfield School is collecting food donations for the Veteran's Food Bank!

Today we... worked on our design/build challenge, did a fall art project with our kindergarten buddies, looked over our math multiplication and division check in, played multiplication BUMP, and had a class meeting. UPDATES & REMINDERS: For Halloween next Tuesday, students may wear their costume in the afternoon (if they wish). Please leave weapons and other accessories at home. Today we... did a literacy activity where we counted phonemes, worked on our design and build challenge, played a math game skip counting by 5s, completed a check-in to see how we are doing with using multiplication and division strategies, used ChromeBooks to access a resource about the regions of Alberta, and did a journaling activity practicing listening and describing images on the Smartboard. UPDATES & REMINDERS: With Halloween just around the corner, p lease don’t send whole class treats to hand out as we have many students with dietary restrictions, allergies and sanitization expectations makes this a challenging practice.

Today we... played a Halloween word scramble game, began a design and build challenge, read from 'A Whale of the Wild', practiced adding and subtracting numbers in the hundreds, played mini-basketball games in gym, learned about what happens to food waste when it is composted and when it is thrown into a landfill, and we did an experiment about food waste producing methane gas. Today we... played a literacy game called 'Word Ladders', did a writing activity retelling the important parts of a short film called 'Piper', exchanged our library books, read from 'A Whale of the Wild', practiced using strategies to solve multiplication questions, reviewed how to add and subtract large numbers with borrowing and regrouping, learned about different methods of waste disposal and discussed advantages and disadvantages of each, and did a scientific sketch of flowers and leaves. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Tomorrow is board game club and Thursday is environment club. HALLOWEEN INFO: At Copperfield School, students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes in the afternoon on Tuesday, October 31. Today we... read some books on GetEpic that had examples of homonyms, worked on 'catch up' jobs from throughout the week, played multiplication BUMP with the 12x tables, practiced using fact families to solve division questions, created art using complementary colours, and had a class meeting to discuss activities coming up at school. Today we... wrote a journal entry about whether students should have more recess time at school, practiced using the talk move 'reasoning', practiced basketball skills in gym, played multiplication BUMP with the 9x tables, used the strategy 'Repeated Subtraction' to find the quotient to division questions, learned a science term 'decomposition' and how it relates to waste removal, and identified the continents and oceans around the world. Today we... did a sentence segmenting activity to help improve phonological awareness, worked on finishing up any work from throughout the week, read from our book 'A Whale of the Wild', attended the 'Pie-in-the-Face' assembly and celebrated the funds raised for the Terry Fox Foundation, and had a class meeting. UPDATES & REMINDERS: Next Wednesday, October 18th is Fun Snack day (pretzels can be ordered), and board game club will also meet on Wednesday at lunch recess. Today we... played a literacy game called synonym match up, discussed what 'Talk Moves' are and practiced how to use them, read from our novel 'A Whale of the Wild', found increasing and decreasing patterns using money, did a Google Classroom activity where we had to put the provinces and territories back together using an online puzzle, and we had music.
